What this site knows about you: very little

Reading these pages should not cost you any privacy. The short version: we do not count you, follow you or ask you for anything.

What the site does not do

There are no analytics tools on this site, so no service is counting visits, building a profile of you or recording which pages you read. The site sets no cookies and runs no tracking or advertising scripts. There are no forms anywhere, and no phone line or email address, so there is no way for the site to collect your name, address or other details, and it does not try.

The few outside requests

A page is not completely sealed off from the wider web, and three things are worth knowing.

Fonts. The typefaces are loaded from Google Fonts. When a page opens, your browser asks Google's font servers for those files, and that request reveals your IP address to Google, as any web request does.

Videos. Some pages show a YouTube video as a click-to-load player. Before you click, the only thing fetched from YouTube is the video's thumbnail picture, from YouTube's image server at i.ytimg.com. Nothing else from YouTube loads until you press play. If you do, the player loads from youtube-nocookie.com, which is YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode, and from then on YouTube's own privacy policy covers what happens in that player. If you would rather not involve YouTube at all, simply leave the video unplayed.

Server logs. The company that hosts the site may keep ordinary server logs, which can record the IP address of each request. We don't use them to identify or follow readers.

Pages link to utilities, agencies, universities, makers and, in some places, to businesses our owners run (see the ownership page). Once you follow a link, you are on another site, and its own privacy rules apply there.

If this page changes, the date at the top of the page will change with it.
